- Engine failure: Extending your oil drain interval can lead to engine damage and possibly failure. An engine is designed to consume or lose a little bit of oil over time. Over a period of time, the motor oil in your engine can thicken and lose volume. This can lead to engine damage due to improper lubrication or oil starvation.

How Long Can You Go Without an Oil Change?
Oil change intervals are determined by your vehicle manufacturer based on engine size, year, make, and model. It’s also based on your driving habits and the severity of conditions that the vehicle is being used. Check your vehicle’s manufacturer recommendation for when to change your oil. If an “oil change” indicator light or message comes on, you should take your vehicle to the nearest automotive professional for an oil and filter change. However, in between oil changes, you should check your oil level to make sure that the engine has adequate oil for optimal engine performance and protection; add oil as needed when the dipstick indicates low oil level.
What Happens If My Car is Low on Oil?
We’ve looked at what happens if you don’t change your oil and how long you go without an oil change. Now let’s tackle this important question: What happens if your car runs out of oil?
It’s disastrous if your car runs out of oil and can lead to extensive engine damage and costly repairs. - If the oil consumption is excessive, then bring your vehicle to the nearest repair facility to diagnose the cause and have that repaired.
